Re: Railroad in the Caribbean

Having carried cargo by barge in the Caribbean for 15 years, I have seen some of the remnants of the sugar railroads.
Dominican Republic has many visible sections of what looks like 2 foot gauge. I have never seen any rolling stock.
There are many remains of track in Puerto Rico, and until recently there was the remains of an open coach in Mayaguez. Many of the docks and piers still have meter gauge trackage. Until the mid seventies there was a museum in Fajardo, which had at least one loco on display. I remember reading that the loco was sold off island.
Antigua has quite a bit of meter gauge remnants, and at one time had two locomotives at a pier near the airport. One was fairly complete, and the other heavily stripped. These were being used to generate steam to heat asphalt being unloaded.
St. Kitts (St. Christopher) has a n operating RR which is still being used at cane harvest time. Motive power is small diesel Plymouth or similar.
There may still be operational narrow gauge in Trinidad.
Take a trip down---at this time of year it's great.
