Hi Rod, as you referred to the coal tipple in Chama I can say that it has been on the front burner for years. Several years ago, there was a 15 or so page study done by engineers as what needs to be done to stablize the structure, and what to do to reverse the lean Westward. About a year ago, we won a Trains magazine award of $10,000 toward our work we need to do on the building. John Sutkus and crew have been working on it for years. Next summer they are going to do MAJOR work on the WEST wall, installing a concrete grade beam and start jacking up that wall to reverse the lean. This will be a multiyear project as there is alot more that needs to be done.
Since you share our love of the railroad, would you consider joing the Friends and help in our work? We can always use more help as there is much to be done. You could even help in the planing of projects that we propose to the commission for approval for each summers work session. Regards, John
