I don't have an exact figure for the restoration. I'd say the cash outlay is the neighborhood of $20K, but we were fortunate that we were able to do a lot of scavanging and received some significant acts of goodwill. Read the web pages for specifics.
The big unknown of starting a project like this is how well were the sills and interior structures were protected. We figured the the fact the truss rods were removed from 0579 took a lot of stress off of the body; from watching the thing go down the track, it's apparent the frame is true. There was no wiggles, creaks, or rocking; rode just like a new car. I think we were extremely lucky, the next time we may not be.
