My guess with that intriguing set of photos is that those engines were going to the newly-expanded New Mexico Lumber operations in Mc Phee. I am guessing that they were determined to be in such poor shape that they were refused by Mc Phee , then sent back to Alamosa for scrap . It is possible that they went to the P.L.Co.operations at Dulce ,but those operations were about to close at that time .
