Navajo to MP 385.9

August 14, 2006 04:25PM
In my many trips to that area between 1960 and 1968 I was never able to get through directly between the lumber mill at MP 385.9 (which you could get to on a dirt road from Gato) and Navajo/MP 377.8 (which you could get to from Dulce). I don't know if roads existed but were too rough for our vehicles (cars, not trucks, no SUV's back then) or that we simply didn't know the way. But many long treks were made via Pagosa Springs. One time I think Gordon and I got lost and we miraculously came to the main road at I believe Chromo.
In driving the route today, much of it appears to be on the old railroad right of way, and I could find no sign of the mill at MP 385.9.
