These media events are usually just dog and pony shows for the 30 second "puff piece" on the local news. That said they do generate revenue for the tourist railroads.
If I were fanning I would avoid this like the plague and wait for more normal operations where one could enjoy things without all the politicos and pushy newspeople.
I spent 10 days on a location during a restoration once, and the CBC was doing a so-called documentary. They constantly got in photographers pictures and made no apologies stating they had to get their close-ups. I stated thats what zoom lenses are for on video cameras. Sorry but I find these media types to be worse than folks who like pink engines(Sports reporters excepted
