Just to add to what Mike said, here is a brief timeline of the Panoramic Special and the Panoramic. The two names that the train carried has often lead to confusing and or inaccurate references and photo captions when referring to Trains 7 & 8 as far as the year is concerned, and especially after the Dotsero Cut-Off was opened and the numbers were changed to 5&6 and its route to over the Moffat and Cut-Off.
Panoramic Special - Denver to Salt Lake City and Ogden daytime all Pullman 6/1/1924-9/28/1924 and summers of 1925, 1926, 1927, 1928, 1929
Panoramic – Denver to Salt Lake City now (no longer Ogden) and now had coaches (note the
word “Special” dropped from name) 6/22/1930-9/6/1930, 6/28/1931- 9/6/1931. Became Trains 5-6 via Moffat Tunnel and Dotsero Cutoff in fall of 1934
Panoramic – Denver to Salt Lake City via the Moffat Tunnel and Dotsero Cutoff fall 1934-
12/4/1938 and then only to Grand Junction. Had been Trains 7-8 perviously.
