Tom
I have an operating standard gauge N scale layout while I am still in the planning stages of my Nn3 layout. I too plan to model the C&TS although I guess it will be far more compressed in size than what you plan or envision. I currently own 3 pieces of locomotive rolling stock. One is a replica of a K27 Manufactured by a company in Germany called LOK14. It is by far the finest piece of equipment that I own, including the standard guage stuff. If literally runs like a Swiss watch. I also have a kit that is a mix of a Marklin mechanizm (modified) and a Republic Locomotive Works boiler and tender. It runs reasonably well. I also have one of the locomotives that Microtrains marketed a couple of years back and is still available through some of the smaller shops that didn't sell them out. After having built the kit, I personally would recommend the ready to run ones. The kit was truely a challenge. The LOK14 is available through a company here in the states called TexNrails, they have a web site
www.texnrails.com. The Republic Locomotive works has an email
rlw87@teleport.com their snail mail is 16 Little Cape Horn, Cathlamet, WA 98612 Tele: 360-577-6479. They are a great source of craftsman type buildings and rolling stock. Microtrains also makes some Nne rolling stock. There is still a lot of scratch building necessary when it comes to buildings especially if you want accurately replicate the C&TS. A company called Roundhouse make a line of N scale passenger cars with a little modification (new trucks availabel from Microtrains and couplers) can be made to mimick narrow gauge varnish. I hope this has been of some help. Have fun!! Hope more of us narrow minded people get into it.
