Kromer caps are just about the only items of clothing in the US that are not made overseas, and the only clothing that I know of still union made. In the old days, no self-respecting railroad man would allow himself to buy scab-made clothing. Thus, the Kromer caps (which nearly all railroad men wore in steam days) are more than a link to our railroad past, they are also a symbol of all the worker dignity that has been lost to greed in the last 40 years.
