Yep. I got a lot of good info, so thanks everyone. It will no doubt be the most expensive box of waste I ever deal with....
But for the record and maybe for some clarification, I think most red blooded steam men trackside where we were in the great State of Montana, listening to the blasting stacktalk and whistlework of that approaching 4-8-4, pulling hard on 19 cars, making track speed with no stinkin' diezel anywhere and with that glorious sound echoing off the side canyons of the Clark Fork River with shivers hammering a number on your spine... wouldn't and shouldn't have van keys in the forefront of their mind. It just wouldn't be right.
I was happily reliving wonderful experiences of an all too brief exposure to steam in my youth. South Amboy on the PRR, the N&W at Clifton Forge, and the Southern at Edwardsville Hill... not giving so much as a wit to keys!
Yeah, I paid the price but I'd glady buy another window to hear it all again.
MRL was good to host both the 700 and the 4449. It was loads of fun.
Now let's put this worked over cotton waste thread to bed.
