My grandparents ran a dairy just north of Alamosa in the twenties and thirties. My late grandmother said they used to ship milk out on the Durango passenger train in milk cans. I do not know how far or where it went.
Incidentally, my grandmother had occasion to travel a lot on the geese over the RGS in the thirties. When I asked her about it, all she remembered was how they set out milk cans at various spots. I guess running a dairy made her notice those things.
