I always prefered my Big Smith overalls, but could never get used to the bandana or the traditional engineers cap. I started wearing a Greek Fishermans cap when I worked on the Georgetown Loop becuse I saw a photo of an engineman on the C&S wearing something very simialr in the early 1900's. By the time I arrived on the C&TS and introduced my contact lenses to cinders, I decided I needed somthing more than sun glasses to keep them out. I bought a pair of welding goggles and replaced the dark lenses with clear ones. With the elastic band, I could easly put them up and out of the way on my short billed fishermans cap. The down side was that I looked pretty goofy, and took quite a bit of teasing from the more traditional folks. Coker will tell you that the Rio Grande guys in Durango used to call me the "fly" when I wore them. Oh Well!, I never had to go and have a cinder dug out of my eye!
