Like you, I was 20 years too late in getting my money together to buy the No.9 (or others) outright when they could be had for little over scrap value. Then we could have done it ourselves like Dan Markoff did, and where it would go from there is evident by how everyone appreciates the Eureka (and Dan, for that matter).
As it is, I still hope to someday have a crack at my own locomotive like the No.71 and ache over how so many of the C&S big 2-8-0's went to the torch even as good, operational machines. It may take going to Central America or Cuba to do it. Guess I better get to saving my scheckels. Maybe a career as a highly paid professional apologist could enhance the locomotive fund for me ? ;-D
