When the DRGW pulled out of Chama, there was left behind a string of stock cars which were not part of the inventory of cars sold to the states. These cars belonged to the scrapper of the Chama - Durango line. Eventually they got shoved out onto the old main west of the wye. Some of these cars were purchased by Scenic Rys, Rio Chama CG, and others.
When Scenic pulled out, the Commission was too cheap (or the price was too high) for them to purchase all of Scenic's car inventory. The only cars they bought from Scenic were "caboose" 05635, a box/snack car and the Tahoe gon (the one in Antonito). There were several a few 1/2 converted boxcar coaches as well as other freight cars that Scenic sold off to various entities including D&S, NPS in Cimarron, Rio Chama CG, 0306 caboose group, etc.
There was a nice 10 car stock train in Chama back in the late 70's. Bill Peter used it on one of his trips. Unfortunately, all of it except 2 cars were Scenic's. They were mostly sold to the D&S where they are today rotting at Tacoma.
