Here is what Bret Banes says occurred:
The derailment occured at Mason siding. The location in your photo looks like it too could be this area. The story was that the loggers failed to lock the switch and the handle bounced up as the cars passed over. This is as you know is why std. proc. is to always hook the lock through the eye in the sw. before bringing a train through even on a switching move
