Los Angeles narrow gauge streetcars

Frank,
The Los Angeles streetcars were 3'6" gauge just like the Denver (Colorado) and Portland (Oregon) streetcars.
The early interurbans from Los Angeles to Pasadena, Santa Monica and San Pedro were also built as 42" gauge lines. In time all of these were converted to standard gauge.
Between LA and Redondo Beach and its lumber wharfs there was once a 3' gauge steam road named the Los Angeles & Redondo. It's LA terminal was a couple of miles from the main business area; so in 1902-3 it converted to a 42" electric line. This was in order that it could run passenger cars over the city streetcar system all the way downtown -- Redondo was also a resort town with a beach.
