Roger, I saw some ospreys flying around in the Needleton area in 2003. Very different from balds or goldens, but majestic nevertheless! Ospreys have a reputatiom as sea eagles, but can be found wherever the fishing is good. Since mining is finished, the fish population has returned to many mountain rivers. In the 1970s (when I came to the Southern Rockies) the great birds were absent due to DDT weakening egg strength. The US government outlawed the insecticide in the early '70s and by the 1980s eagles, hawks, perigines, ducks and other big birds made a big comeback. Yes, sometimes our government gets it right! Another rare sighting in Chama... I saw a red fox twice that live right around Chama yard.in 2002.
