One additional issue that makes some electrical work neccessary on #19 is that when we fired it up in July, the secondard electrical system (64V) wasn't charging. When the voltage was too low, several control systems wouldn't work. George Greenbaum put a wedge in a contactor to make it charge. It's possible that someone fixed this by now, I don't know.
In regard to the solid state regulators, John Hammond and I talked about that modification before. I had someone check to see if we could get the regulators from the inventory of the "other railroad" in Antonito. They were'nt available from that source. John's regulators were from an older GE product, most of those locomotives of that type have long been scrapped.
The bottom line is that some electrical work seemed imminent because of that charging problem.
