My points exactly, RPO's X54 & X65 don't have end doors, ends are reinforced with rails, no platforms, etc. etc. Not very practical for use for anything other than an RPO, and last time I checked there was not a lot of mail being carried by the C&TS

Now on the other hand ex RPO 053 would seem to me to be a much better candidate for use in an actual trainset. I don't understnd why this car is being restored as a cook car though as it could serve a better and more useful life as a RPO concession car. It would also make a good candidate for the start of a short train set for Antonito - Big Horn or Cumbres turns.
Yes, 053 is not an original San Juan trainset car, but IMHO it would give more bang for the buck to restore it as an RPO before the other cars X54 / X65.
