Apparently, this was taken by Jackson looking east from on top of the tunnel. This rock could block the view of the tunnel from the bottom of the gorge.
All I know is that Fielder's picture sure doesn't show any tunnel. I have seen very few pictures of the east portal even from the train. The track suddenly curves and, boom, you're in it. And I have never made it out from the forest road on top of the ridge.
