I believe the last revenue trains ran over the line in 1997.
I don't see how there's a future for the line as a freight route. It made sense as part of a WP/D&RGW/MP route from the West to Kansas City when rates were regulated, and a shipper paid the same for essentially any route between two end points. (Prior to deregulation, a good salesman could get traffic based on steak dinners, not price.) But UP's route costs less to operate, and to increase capacity. And the MP from Pueblo to KC is severed.
Without its east end, and since it will always cost more to carry a ton of freight over Tennessee Pass, there's not much reason to reactivate it.
