I had a picture of the 478 taken by a Denver railfan who rented from my grandmother, and if I remember correctly, his name was James VanPatten, and the picture absolutely fascinated me as a kid. So, I did pre-computer research and discovered the Rio Grande, the narrow gauge, and the Silverton train. We lived in California at the time, so on our next visit to Denver, I went down to Union Station and asked about the train at the ticket window, and drew a blank from the ticket agent, and he sent me up to the D&RGW building on Stout Street (?), and on the first floor was their city ticket office, and very grudgingly did they dig out a brochure on the Silverton. I then hiked over to the bus station and found out how to get to Durango, and in a couple of days, was headed for Durango. That was a fateful picture that ultimately changed the course of my life.
Even now, on vacation, I can't get away from trains, and today watched a crew ballast some new track at the Niles Canyon Railway near where I'm visiting.
