STEVE! Thanks for this all-important picture. But I should be upset. Assuming this is one of the 76000 series cars it means that I have to re-design the underframe for the kit!! (But then on the other hand it means the kit will be even more unique and accurate)
5 beams, instead of six - AND five truss rods instead of 4! Any clue as to whether this is a 40K, 50K or 60K car? We know there are three different load capacities and three different lengths. (Also, I think 3 different trucks - archbar, T-Bet and Vulcan)
Can we make assumptions? If this is actually a 40 foot OLC car, which later became a 76000 series SVRY car, the extra truss rod might be part of the puzzle. But what kind of trucks are those?
I want these kits to be as correct as possible - but don't misunderstand, I'm not going to hold the first kit forever until it's "perfect" either. Been down that road before (and so have others). The kit as it exists now is uniquely Sumpter and identifiably Sumpter Valley and will fill a definate void for 3 foot flatcars (whether SVRY is modeled or not).
Now, since I can't leave without causing some controversey - John Cummings (a logging historian of no small repute) says the 76000 series cars were Pacific Car and Foundry, but I know there are those who beleive that they were SVRY built. Of course we know the hardware vrs woodware issues. Is this a case of both camps being right (depending on the car) or?????
