I don't know why #478 rode rougher than the other two ,but it rode like a 480(rough) , while the other two rode like automobiles . Nothing is known about whether it was in some frame-tweaking derailment . Considering how many times the 473 was ditched,it would be logical if it had problems ,but it rode fine ,even after being plowed into by the potato truck in 1988. #478 couldn't pull as hard as the other two , being pronounced a "gutless wonder".The engine saw less use than the other two for many years, being a standy engine . Naturally ,it was assigned to me all of the time .I learned how to cope with its shortcomings ,and learned to like the engine very much . #476 was long favored as it steamed well and could really pull .It was also never fitted with the unpopular power reverse the other two had . As time passed .its fine throttle was replaced with a homemade version that was "on"or"off" After the sloppy fluesheet job it wouldn't steam either ,as water almost poured out of the bottom of the firebox .
