The original pump house didn't last very long if the plaque above the door on the new structure says what I think it does. If I am reading the last digit of the date correctly it reads "ERECDED 1883". The last digit could be an 8 but it doesn't look like the upper loop is connected. When you get out there next year you should take a good look at it. The railroad didn't reach Antonito until 1880 and Chama until 1881. The original pump house only lasted 2-3 years!
I can't provide any other dates beyond what John Templeton has posted.
A few more notes based upon the ICC valuation map:
- There is 125' of right of way on either side of the pipe line.
- The pumpers house No. 4 was about 125' north of the new pump house No. 6. That would put it about at the southern edge of the present day dirt road. The west wall of the house backed up to the pipeline.
- The old pump house No. 7 was about 75' west of the new pump house.
- The map is corrected to Dec 31, 1927 so does that mean that the pumpers house was still there at that time?
