The 37's were moved from either being based out of Salida or Alamosa based on tonnage from the mines in Crested Butte or the gas boom of Farmington. When the natural gas boom started in the 50's the 37's were moved from Salida to Alamosa and once the Marshall Pass line was abandoned (1955) and the Monarch operations standard gauged (1956) the K-36's that were operating there were moved to Alamosa and joined the 37's. A few K-36's were never sent up to Salida in the late 40's early 50's due to the fact the San Juan was still running.
