Rod - thanks for your kind words.
I agree with your statement that history sells. But I have my hands full with existing commitments in February, and three other projects that may gel in 2006. (That's in addition to work, family, and civic commitments here.)
Spring is a tough time to plan a C&TS event - ask Greg Scholl. The employees are busy preparing for the regular season. They don't need the distractions - working on freight cars that won't be used for regular operations, etc. - unless the event is going to be extremely profitable. ("Doing it for the publicity" usually means doing it for little or no profit.)
We got lucky in 1992, and caught lightning in a bottle. It would not have been possible without the years of careful work done by Kyle Railways and its employees, and their enthusiasm for putting on a spectacular event. Simply put, right now the railroad could not restage those trips - much of the human infrastructure is gone, and many of the freight cars we used aren't up to the trip.
I believe the best publicity for the C&TS right now is to get its act together and make clear that there will be passenger trains ready to operate on Memorial Day weekend 2006.
