Agree with the above post. If you are not in a hurry, ride the train both ways. I have ridden it several times. The last time, I rode the bus up to Silverton and then rode the train back. I felt that I got a good perspective both ways. The bus driver was very helpful and vocal on the history of the area. Try this URL, I stayed there about five years back and enjoyed it a lot.
