Don't you know that words like historical, and railfans, are seldom used in these parts any more!!!! Now if you suggested purple picnic box lunches, it might suit some folks, as long as the local merchants make a killing off the out-of-towners!!!
I sure wish folks running the railroad, like the Commissioners, would realize the jewel of a railroad they have, and market the historical appearance these trains could portray. Its something special to know that Rio Grande engines actually ran on these Rio Grande rails, so why not display it!!! What other class 1 railroad still has steam engines that ran on their original tracks and matches the name on the tenders. Two come to mind...Canadian Pacific, and Union Pacific!!! A little new white paint on the tenders and cab sides, and you now have something to market. The engines would then be the stars of the Railroad!!! Push that historic fabric into the minds of each ad, each TV commercial, and brochure. Make it seem rare, which it is!!!
So, have a picnic at some railroad location, and ride behind an authentically painted engine from a bygone era. Wow now thats a novel idea!!!
I'd be willing to cough up $250.00 to have 484 re-lettered, and I am sure others would step forward for the other 2 locos!!!
Cost to Commission, Zero dollars!
Cost to RGRPC Zero Dollars!
Cost to local Merchants, Zero Dollars!
Getting it right....PRICELESS!!!
