Re: Wreck at Hell Gate

The tender tank, frame and a wheel set or two are over the side at Hell Gate as of a few years ago. I climbed up to the wreck from the road in the bottom of the valley (it seemed easier than climbing down - at the time!), climbing over huge boulders thinking "if one slips, I'll get squished in a big hurry", and "If I drop my camera into this, it's a goner". Anyway, got up there and snapped a shot of the tank with Colorado Midland sort of visible, crawled around to the other side where the sun doesn't shine and the lettering was clear as day.
But I used my last frame up on the other side and I didn't bring any more film. Argh!...
There is the remains of an RGS tender at the bottom of Keystone Hill on the Telluride Branch. It's right off the road that goes past Illium. There also used to be a tank up at Perrins Peak. I think it was retrieved by Shank and is now at the Colo RR Mus.
