Dan, Rawhide, arcitectural harmony is only one point and a good one. What is more upsetting to me, is the poor quality of food at those junk food chain restaurants. I really can not understand why people want the food taste the same everywhere. Variety of tastes, species. cultures, that is what nature is all about and what makes a tourist destination worth travelling. From our trips during the last 30 years thru nearly all parts of te world we braought back a lot of influences for our cooking. So now we have a mixture of Mexican, Indian, Chinese, African, Turkish, European, Thai and American (both) dishes to choose from. Alsways the same food is boaring and I like the "adventure" of checking out new tastes.
If I saw a town flagged dwith BK, MD, Subway and other signs this is no reason for me to stop and eat there. ANst that is waht most European tourists do, they will look for small family owend buinesees and try them Maybe they are diasppointed, but in most cases the food was good.
For example Buffalo meat was mostly unklown over here, but since 1990 app 25 "ranches" produce buffalo meat.
