A lot of railroads used oxide red or some other variant on cab roofs. This was not apparently a common practice on the D&RGW, which for the most part seems to have painted cab roofs plain old black. However, never say "never." For years I'd always thought the D&RGW never painted cab roofs any color other than black on the narrow gauge. And then saw Woodrow Gorman's movies taken in the 1940's. (They used to be sold by Blackhawk, not sure who is selling them now) One sequence has a K-37 arriving in Crested Butte with a long train of mty gons for the CF&I mine. Shot from a hillside above the railroad, there is no doubt about the oxide red cab roof on the locomotive. Having said that, I don't recall seeing any evidence of an oxide red cab roof on any of the K-27's. But it would look sharp - especially with the green boiler scheme. Much like the GN's "Glacier Park" scheme, except better IMHO.
