Exactly my point. Miz main-train or lame-brain, or whatever her name is, has done a GREAT job of undermining all the hard work done by the Union Pacific's P.R. department for the past three years.
Corporations spend millions - in some cases billions - getting their names before the public. In advertising, name recognition is the name of the game. How many scum-bag politicians have been re-elected even after being found guilty of a (usually) white-collar crime primarily because their names were plastered all over the news for two or three years? Festus J. Frothjaw steps into the voting booth and - duh - votes for the guy whose name he recognizes - never mind WHY he recognizes it. I bet O.J. or even Charles Manson could be elected to congress if they tried. (What? Manson can't run 'cause he's a felon? But 2/3 of the present congess and 99.44% of the executive branch are felons. Why CAN'T he run? Oh, he's a CONVICTED felon. NOW I get it ...)
If I were U.P., I'd be PAYING Nils to put pictures of #844 and #3985 and the Yellow Train into his calendar. (If they'd paid CedCo what the PR was worth, maybe Chuck wouldn't be in hot water right now!)
U.P. should be giving away not only calendars but HO and O and even G-scale models on a regular basis. Johnny and Sally are going to grow up some day, and one or the other of them may end up as president of FedEx. If you were president of U.P., wouldn't you prefer that he or she once had a UP calendar in his or her room, and a UP train under the Christmas tree instead of BNSF - or even worse, some stupid airplane?
ALL major corporations are de facto presumed to be heavy-handed and greedy, and spend a LOT of money counteracting this perception and telling the public what good citizens they are. The news articles telling Nils' side of the story aren't going to cost him a thing - and U.P. is going to become a national laughing-stock if they don't nip this in the bud by firing the bitch and publicly apologizing to all concerned. (IMCO* of course.)
