I was on the caboose of this falls ballast train on the SVRy. It was a very memorable event, IMHO well worth photographing. For one thing on the down hill loaded run 19 was facing downgrade which is not what is usually seen on our passenger runs. Because we don't have the loop completed at Sumpter 19 is normally run around the consist on a siding and backs downgrade. Below ballast there are a number of curves and the veiw from the caboose as we rounded the bends was like from another time. There was very little to clue one in that is was 2000 and not 1927. We had 6 hoppers, 2 flats and the caboose. In the background the tamarack (larch) were turning and the other fall colours were breathtaking. Below Hwy 7 the engineer let 19 strut its stuff for a mile or so and the sights and sounds were a lot of fun. I am sure this kind of thing is not feature length video material, but the more interesting parts could surely be used as a segment of something broader in scope. Our ballast train was sceduled a couple weeks in advance as I recall, so if there was interest in the future perhaps Ron can post something a little further in advance.
