Messers Ways and Stillwell,
The Tank car that came from the GTL was definitely a Gramps tank car. There is no question, not now, not ever.
How do I know?
Back in 1970 when this car came on to the CCNG property at Central City, Colorado (a company also owned by the Ashby's), it was a grimy, dirt covered filthy mess. On my days off, I took it upon myself to "spruce up" some of the existing equipment up there. After I repainted and relettered the 71 and Combine 20, I took in after the tank car.
I scraped the dirt and clotted oil from the sides, ends and underside using a 2" hand scraper and s putty knife. When I got to the sides, the "Gramps" logo appeared under all of the dirt and crud. I repainted the car using Valspar Black Enamel, some of which I had left from the 71 project (we bought the paint at Jenkins-McKay Hardware in Black Hawk). For the "Gramps" on the side, i used the hi-temp aluminum that we had been using on the smokebox of the CCNG (later GTL) 44. For the Lettering , we used sign painters "One Shot" enamel. There were three layers of numbers on that car that I could detect. I used the latest one.
Oh yes, if you doubt the veracity of this statement, I can even tell you the lettering brushes that I used.
This should put this silly @#$%& to rest once and for all.....
