Emma Hurtado, our former departmental receptionist here at the County of Ventura, long ago nicknamed me "Russo Loco" for some unknown reason. Everyone here knows I am a railfan, so I interpreted this to be the abbreviated form of 'Russo de los Locos' - "Locos" being short for "Locomoturas de Vapor", or steam locomotives - so a rough translation of the nickname is "Russ of the Choo-Choos" - which clearly indicates that Emma had NO intention WHATSOEVER that the nickname be a reflection of my mental state ...
When we Five Foamers started our screen-saver / website project to raise money for restoration of #483, John West referred to us as the "Five Old Farts", whereas I prefer to think of us as "Old Fossils" or "Fossilizing Foamers". The Spanish word "Vapor" in "Locomoturas de Vapor" means "steam", but could also mean the same as it does in English - "vapor". Vapor = gas and gas = fart, so by calling us "Fossillos Viejos de Vapor" both John and I can be happy - in my case, I'm an old fossil foamer of steam, and he can be an old fossil foamer of gas - or, as he call himself, an old fart. To each one's own ...
