Hi Matt,
Hope you get to do some grade hiking in August. Here is a map that shows where I drove while I was near Ophir. I work for a company that makes vehicle tracking devices and I had one in my truck on the trip. So I can pull up a map of everywhere that I have been. The device uses cellular service to transmit my location back to the base. The different color "+" signs tell me how good the cellular coverage is. Green is good and red is bad. So cell coverage was good further north near Telluride. Ok enough technical babble.
The yellow + just above Ames is on forest road 625. The pluses along the left side of the map are on road 623 which is the grade as you can see from the map. Road 623 branches off of 625 right around the location labeled Ilium. The red + furthest south is were I parked to hike from the Ames tank to butterfly. The Ames tank site is not too far from the start of the trail. Oh, the red spots down by Ophir loop show where I parked to check out the high line. The one furthest south lets you see 46F and 46E but I didn't do any hiking there. The second red spot is where I hiked down to 46C and did a short hike.
