To all of our loyal visitors AND volunteers:
A major factor in determining the number and scheduling of steam-ups at the museum is that approximately 30 people are needed for each day of an operating weekend. These positions, which include the operating crew, car attendants, loading and detraining attendants, grade crossing guards, parking attendants, food service (we feed our volunteers), set up and grounds clean up, and a few other things, are staffed by our volunteers. Our paid staff is busy running the museum.
I extend the invitation again to those of you who have not yet joined our volunteer program to do so. There are opportunities to show off your skills in a myriad of activities ranging from work in the library to tour guide to restoring equipment. And only 72 hours a year of regular volunteer activity allows you to participate in the operating sessions as train crew. We have training for the various positions, and where else do you get to run a steam engine and get a free lunch?
