We are getting into an interesting but little-explored part of railroad history that most railfans overlook. Specifric, the economic and financial side of railroad history. It's interesting to know the kind of cars, locos, etc. a railroad used,, but the "why" behind the reasons the cars were used is seldom discussed.
I still want to know the number and appearance of every car that ever operated on the N-C-O Ry., but understanding the financial and accounting implications is becoming more and more interesting as well. It just takes a lot more time to uncover and integrate it into the overall story.
