Back when Boeing was building 727's as fast as they could, they flew 727's to Wichita to avoid paying Washington State inventory tax. Due to the fact that the engines used on the 727 were also used on military jets needed for Nam at that time there was a shortage of them, as soon as the 727's landed in Wichita, they were stiped of their outboard engines. Then engines were returned to Seattle to be put on the next 727 to be sent to Wichita.
