I can't say I would care much for the paint scheme of this engine, and I bet the crews who cleaned them liked them even less. Gives new meaning to the term WHITE ELEPHANT!
Speaking of cleaning, that is one thing I really enjoyed in South Africa. Many of the 4-8-4's were pool engines and had the usual grime on them, but a few had regular crews, and at each service stop(like Orange River) these clean engines would get the once over including those nice boiler bands. Lots of fun watching engines coming and going all day at Orange River then working like hell to get started up the grade either direction. Enough of the old days...Wasn't the C&T freight charter this weekend. Hope we'll see some pictures posted.
