Where am I? Stuck in Omaha Nebraska without a job. I applied at UP for hostler and fueler. But while I was about 30 minutes into the application (it's all computerized - 40 minutes long) I accidentally exited it. So I said to hell with that. Then I got a call from the zoo. They want me to do grunt work all summer. His words were "crap work". I also applied at a place by my house that does sand blasting. A company called "Master Blaster".
But with all of my hard work and determination to get a job with a tourist line this year, it paid off because now I have two railroads that want me, and no, neither of them is the C&T. I have no chance landing a job in Chama until Kim is gone. I don't mind. I can wait. The Cumbres & Toltec is cool, but there are some railroads that are just as good only in different ways.
I will probably end up at the Black Hills Central. They have two prairies, one is a tank locomotive. They also have the only running compound mallet in the country. Former Weyerhauser, and Rayonier 2-6-6-2. They run these up 4% grades. It's like the Omaha Zoo railroad only 10 miles long instead of 2 1/2. And it also seems pretty cool scenery wise. I have never been up there, and supposedly the "four faces" overlook the town of Keystone and can be seen from the depot.
The Nevada Northern would also like me to work for them.
I might drive up to the Black Hills at the end of the month. Mike Grimm, the CMO, wants to meet me.
