There's a small, shallow lake on the northwest side of Buena Vista called, of all things, Ice Lake. In the early years, the stage coach between Leadville and points south would stop at the still-standing and in use as a fishing lodge coach house to change horses.
In winter, ice was cut from the lake and shipped out in box cars. I don't know whether it was served by the D&RG or the C&S, but I'd guess the business lasted into the standard gauge era.
Today, the lake and surrounding property is owned by the Mt. Princeton Trout Club. I fished it ten years ago as a guest. You had to throw back any fish under 16 inches, and could only keep three. Fishing was with flies only, of course. -- Ed
