We believe the car was built by the Carter Brothers about 1885 or so, but are not sure. According to the ICC inventory it was purchased second hand.
The car body was recovered by Henry Sorensen for his backyard railroad, the Humbolt & Northern in Arcata California. As noted he has done quite a bit of work on the car, including new platforms, couplers, and installing trucks (North Pacific Coast freight trucks, salvaged from the Prather Lumber Co site in Lake County. Additionally he had located a stove, cast new clearstory ventaltors (we did the pattern work) and generally located and stored many parts which would be needed to restore the car.
Henry kept the car inside, in a former chicken coup. He has donated the car along with two Westside Lumber Co flats to the SPCRR. We anticipate moving them in October. (by agreement, they must be stored inside)
