Carlos I had no intention of insulting you or your grandfather. I know he and you have a proud legacy of railroading. He with the D&RGW and you with the C&TS. My point was not to say he wan't proud of you, but that he would probably like to see the heritage of the old D&RGW kept to some degree if possible, don't you think. I believe we honor those who worked for the railroad in the "Revenue Days" by keeping the history alive in todays railroad, be it the C&TS or the D&S. By using aspects of the former railroad today we remember these good people and the proud heritage of the D&RGW. The more we change things the more we forget the heritage, and have less to pass on.
I wasn't implying that you had anything to do with the decission, as my venting was more at the situation, and the higher ups, not you personally. I have the utmost respect for you and have always thought you were a great guy, and now one of the senior employees. Heck I can remember a new kid fireman many years ago named Carlos, and that was you!
Please accept my apologies. It was not my intention to upset you in this manner. I probably should not have used this as an example.
I do feel strongly though that the heritage of the railroad is slowly eroding. Does the C&TS want to be just a another tourist railroad with only history in books to show what it was, or are they going to portray themselves as what the railroad once was for riders to see first hand!! We surely can't go back in time, and today the railroad is not a freight hauler by any means. It is there only for entertainment, as are all tourist trains. However this one is special in that it is owned by the states, and therefore should uphold a certain amount of historical integrity the way I see it. If it were privately owned, then any color would be fine. I remember the time on the D&RGW(50's and 60's) that was when your grandfather probably worked the railroad. Thats the part I want to see preserved, at least as much as possible. I think he would like that too. Thats all I am saying. I surely did not mean anything other than that.
Please remember this is the internet, and things get taken out of context, for better or worse. Sometimes we all tend to over-react, me included. Time for a good nights sleep!
Cheers,
Greg Scholl
