OK:
I seem to remember in reading the history of the San Juan Extension that the Rio Grande reached Durango and imediately started shipping coal from west of Durango. This is before the RGS of it implies that there was a branch or something to the mines. This is what we are trying to farret out. I am not sure when the rails were put across the river to the smelter and coke ovens, which also woulld need coal. Or am I mistaken in time frame, was all of this later. I know I should check my book X which I also have but thought some of you in the area may not more.
