The engine is ex Potosi y Rio Verde #4. Baldwin CN 24306, built June 1904. It was acquired by the Huckleberry railroad in 1975 from the Colorado Railroad Museum, along with two ex D&RGW Coaches and one ex Rio Grande Southern coach. It was part of a complex transaction that saw a second engine from Mexico go to Rhinelander, Wisconsin in exchange for an ex DSP&P 2-8-0 which went to the Colorado Railroad Museum.
The No. 4 has a cracked driver center, a bad firebox and lots of rust, but it could be restored if someone had the money and a need for it. The Huckleberry doesn't need it for operation, and after 25 years sitting outside the shops with no offers to buy, it was cosmetically restored a couple of years ago and placed alongside the line as a part of a logging exhibit.
I expect the Christmas decorations will be off by the time they open for the season in May!
