This little monster is indeed a 44 ton locomotive. It was built for service at the CF&I steel mill in Pueblo Colorado, they used to have a fleet of these hauling ingots and such around the mill. It rides on 6x11 roller bearings, imagine one truck from a GE 80ton locomotive and that is basically what you have under this one (the wheel base even appears to be the same as one truck from an 80 tonner). It actually seems to ride pretty well. As for airbrakes, it has a modern 26 type air brake stand in it (brand new to be exact)along with brand new air compressors. It is certainly a unique little creature.
