464 is in the Huckleberry Railroad shops near Flint, Michigan. The initial hydro test of the boiler is scheduled for tomorrow, April 12. We are nearing completion of a thorough overhaul. This includes the boiler inspection and survey required as part of the 1472 service day inspection required by the FRA new Part 230. The first tube was installed March 22, 2005. Other work included replacing the bottom of the smokebox, all new tires on the drive wheels, replacing 4 crown brasses and re-keying the other 4, many new components in the spring rigging, removal, inspection, and re-assembly of the front and rear trucks, building a new tender tank, and new wheelsets and springs in the front tender truck. Work left to do includes machining the new pistons, pressing the new rod brasses into the rods, insulating the boiler, re-installing and painting the jacket,and making a new exhaust stand and other front end components. The cab has been painted and is ready to install. She is scheduled to return to service by the Fourth of July.
