Matthew,
A lot of work was completed with restoration of # 44, but is now on hold. Boiler work was done in Denver, and drivers were sent to Durango for new tires and quartering.
I rode behind #40 and #44 double-heading in 1983 (I believe it was 83). They were very impressive together.
Attached is boiler work underway in 2001.
